How FTA Global Helped ManipalCigna Reach 13.32% AI Citation Share

AI Citations via Search Engineering™
13.32% AI citation share
44 AI mentions
Background
ManipalCigna is a health insurance provider offering products across individual, family, critical illness, top-up, and other health insurance categories.
As health insurance discovery expands beyond conventional search engines, buyers are increasingly encountering brands through AI-generated answers across platforms such as OpenAI, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI experiences.
That creates a different visibility challenge.
A brand may rank well in search but still be absent from the answer generated when a user asks an AI platform which plan, provider, or policy type to consider.
FTA Global therefore evaluated ManipalCigna’s visibility through a broader Search Engineering™ lens, including brand mentions, citation share, cited pages, competitor presence, and the sources AI systems relied on.
The Challenge
ManipalCigna already had a meaningful foundation in AI search, but competitive visibility was uneven.
In the tracked competitor set, ManipalCigna held 11% visibility, compared with 34.5% for Care and 14.5% for Star.
The gap to Star was relatively small at 3.5 percentage points, while the gap to the category leader was much larger.
At the same time, ManipalCigna had 26 cited pages, more than HDFC Ergo, ICICI, and Tata AIG in the analysed dataset.
The challenge was therefore not a complete lack of AI visibility.
It was about converting an already strong content base into higher mention frequency, broader citation coverage, and a stronger presence across high-intent health insurance queries.
The Strategy
FTA Global approached the problem by looking beyond rankings and analysing how AI systems were constructing health insurance answers.
Benchmark the competitive AI landscape
ManipalCigna was compared against leading insurers across:
- Visibility share
- Brand mentions
- Pages cited
- Citation presence
- Source diversity
This showed where the brand already had authority and where competitors were appearing more consistently.
Identify citation-ready owned content
The analysis focused on which ManipalCigna pages AI systems were already selecting.
Top cited content covered topics such as:
- Individual vs family floater health insurance
- Permanent exclusions
- Restoration benefits
- Choosing health insurance for a family
- Top-up and super top-up plans
- Comparing health insurance plans
These pages demonstrated that practical, decision-support content was already earning AI citations.
Understand where AI engines source answers
The analysis also examined the wider source ecosystem influencing health insurance answers.
This mattered because AI citation visibility didn't come only from insurer websites.
Authoritative sources, media, directories, social platforms, and specialist websites were all contributing to how AI systems formed answers.
The Execution
FTA Global mapped ManipalCigna’s citation footprint across multiple AI environments and analysed the pages, competitors, and source types appearing within those answers.
Owned content analysis
FTA Global identified the strongest ManipalCigna pages based on how often they appeared in AI-generated responses.
The leading page, covering individual vs family floater health insurance, appeared across seven answers.
Pages covering permanent exclusions and restoration benefits appeared across five answers each, while several family insurance and top-up pages appeared repeatedly across AI platforms.
Prompt-level competitor analysis
We evaluated high-intent queries individually to see whether ManipalCigna was cited, mentioned, both, or neither.
For example, analysis of the prompt “best critical illness insurance plan in India” showed that a ManipalCigna page could be used as a source even when the brand wasn't included among the recommended options.
That distinction is important.
Being cited and being recommended are not always the same thing.
This created a clear optimisation opportunity around moving from source authority to brand inclusion within the answer itself.
Third-party source analysis
FTA Global also analysed which external platforms AI systems were citing.
Among the tracked social and community sources:
YouTube contributed 3.75% of citations
Reddit contributed 1%
LinkedIn contributed 1%
This highlighted the importance of strengthening authority beyond the brand’s own website.
The Outcome
ManipalCigna established a meaningful presence within the analysed AI search landscape.
The brand reached:
13.32% AI citation share
11% AI visibility share
44 brand mentions
26 cited ManipalCigna pages
The citation analysis also placed ManipalCigna ahead of several competitors by citation share, while its 26 cited pages created a strong owned-content base for further growth.
The broader source analysis revealed another important pattern.
Across the analysed health insurance citation ecosystem, 58.5% of citation share came from vendor, brand, or specialist websites, while 18.5% came from authoritative, standards, and research sources.
Together, those two source categories represented 77% of citation appearances.
That showed that strengthening AI visibility would require both strong owned content and stronger association with credible third-party sources.
What do we learn?
AI visibility is not one metric.
A brand can be cited without being recommended.
It can have many cited pages but still trail competitors in overall mentions.
And it can rank strongly on Google while remaining underrepresented in AI-generated answers.
ManipalCigna’s analysis showed that the brand already had a valuable foundation: 26 cited pages and 13.32% citation share.
The next opportunity is to increase the depth and breadth of that authority across high-intent insurance conversations, while strengthening both owned content and trusted third-party signals.
That is the role Search Engineering™ plays.
Not simply asking, “Do we rank?”
But asking, “Are we part of the answer?”
